Job Description:

Iowa State University's College of Design is currently hiring for the Alumni Relations Specialist I role, which serves as the college's Alumni Relations and Events Coordinator . The successful candidate will play a central role within the college's Strategic Communications unit, collaborating closely with the Dean's Office, Career Services, and all departments within the college. Responsibilities include expanding alumni relations initiatives, organizing college-level events such as commencements, ceremonies, celebrations, receptions, and reunions, and fostering alumni engagement. This role also involves collaborating with counterparts in other colleges and units, including the Iowa State University Alumni Association and the Iowa State University Foundation, to coordinate joint programs and events.

The ideal candidate will possess effective planning, organizational, and leadership skills and the ability to work independently and with various internal and external stakeholders. Strong communication skills, oral, written, and visual, are essential. Additionally, the role requires strong customer service and time-management skills, the ability to solve problems on-site, and the capacity to create targeted mass communications for event promotion. Flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends, and the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. for event setup is necessary. T his role may require occasional domestic and international travel, offering the opportunity for unique experiences and professional growth!

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Example of Duties • Assist in developing, strengthening, and implementing college and departmental-level alumni communications and programs• Prepare monthly college alumni e-newsletter and contribute to alumni print publication• Assist in building alumni engagement on targeted social media platforms• Coordinate alumni award nominations, selections, and presentations• Plan, promote, coordinate, and implement alumni and college events and programs• Serve as the College of Design’s representative on the university’s Alumni Relations Council

Level Guidelines • Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision• Grasps professional-level knowledge and concepts of the field while working in a progressive learning mode• Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope• Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data for which answers are available or can be obtained• Responds to inquiries and issues, escalating to manager or higher level workers as appropriate• May lead projects of limited scope and complexity• May provide guidance to students
