Required Minimum Qualifications:Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience. Licensed to provide clinical services.

Preferred Qualifications:Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited university program, and completed APA Accredited internship.

Three or more years of post-licensure experience.

Experience providing supervision or training in a university counseling center with a post-doctorate program or APA-accredited doctoral internship program.

Demonstrated experience in a leadership role.

Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Training at the Student Counseling Services (SCS) At Iowa State University supports the SCS Director in managing the fiscal health, administration, and training programs. This role includes budget preparation, staff supervision, program evaluation, and accreditation compliance, requiring strong leadership, organizational, and clinical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Fiscal and Administrative Oversight:

  • Collaborate on budget preparation and staffing needs.

  • Act as in-house director in the absence of senior directors.

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Participate in the Leadership Team for resource planning.

  • Communicate policies and decisions to staff.

Training Program Management:

  • Oversee training programs for practicum students, graduate assistants, interns.

  • Direct trainee selection, orientation, and evaluation processes.

  • Ensure compliance with APA accreditation standards.

Clinical and Administrative Supervision:

  • Supervise unlicensed staff and trainees.

  • Conduct assessments, interventions, and psychotherapy.

Crisis and Team Leadership:

  • Serve as Team Leader for initial appointments and crisis services.

  • Provide crisis intervention and consult on student mental health concerns.

Staff Supervision and Development:

  • Hire, train, and evaluate clinical staff.

  • Manage personnel issues in collaboration with HR.
