Position Title:Athletics Academic Coordinator

Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:Experience providing dedicated academic support and/or counseling to students at the collegiate level.

Experience working within a NCAA Athletics Academic or Compliance unit with working knowledge of academic eligibility rules.

Experience coordinating at-risk academic programs to collegiate level students and working regularly with students of varying levels of proficiency.

Job Description:

The ISU Athletics Department is accepting applications for an Athletics Academic Coordinator (academic advisor II) to provide professional academic coordination and advising services to student-athletes in assigned Olympic sports. This position m onitors student progress and academic eligibility, and provides referrals to resources for wellbeing and support, such as tutoring, testing, counseling, or financial aid.

Example of Duties

  • Provide counseling (academic and personal skill development) and academic coordination to student-athletes;

  • Assist students concerning degree planning, academic support services, course selection, athletic eligibility requirements, graduation requirements, degree certification, degree auditing, etc.;

  • Monitor and evaluate academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes through graduation and proactively update coach and academic leaders of potential issues;

  • Assess, identify and monitor academically at-risk students and assist with setting up testing, tutoring and other support resources;

  • Analyze data and prepare regular progress reports;

  • Develop materials and present to prospects during recruiting visits;

  • Advise students and coaches on academic policies and procedures;

  • Perform duties ethically and in compliance with NCAA, Big 12 Conference and institutional policies and standards for athletics and university eligibility;

  • Help supervise students and hourly support staff.

    This position requires solid analytical, organizational, teaching, written and verbal communication, motivational and interpersonal skills along with high academic integrity. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body in an effort to maximize university and departmental goals and objectives.

    This position is 100% on-sight and requires the ability to occasionally meet with students outside regular office hours that can include some evening or weekend meetings.

    Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
