Primary Health Care (PHC) was founded in 1981 by Dr. Bery Engebretsen in Des Moines, IA. Our mission has remained unchanged since that time, to provide healthcare and supportive services to all, regardless of insurance, immigration status, or ability to pay.

Based on the needs of the communities we serve, PHC offers a spectrum of medical and dental services including family practice, behavioral health, HIV care and services, and pharmacy. PHC’s Homeless Support Services is the entry point for serving people experiencing homelessness in Polk County. Enabling services are available to help patients with benefits enrollment, case management, transportation, translation, and patient education. We currently have locations in Ames, Des Moines, & Marshalltown.

As a Clinic Care Technician (CCT) you will be a member of the Patient Care Team. You will support the delivery of healthcare by providing clinical care and administrative support as delegated by professional clinical staff.

    What You Will Do

  • Performs basic clinical duties such as rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, height, weight, and collection of basic patient intake questions and data in the clinic or on the telephone. Participates in initial patient data gathering of patient information and goals as instructed.

  • Assists with a variety of minor procedures; collects and labels lab specimens according to protocol and performs basic lab and clinical testing procedures. Reports results and pertinent information to patients as directed.

  • Provides accurate and complete information to patient and family as needed and applicable. Organizes, documents and maintains electronic medical records (i.e., test results, retrieval, filing, creation, repair, charging of electronic medical record).

  • Per health care team assessment of patient data, assists in coordinating communications among team; communicates changes/information regarding patient’s condition to the clinical staff. Initiates appropriate emergency procedures as needed.

  • Prepares exam rooms in accordance with established infection control protocols. Maintains supply inventory and stocks supplies in various work areas. Provides cross coverage for other clinic functions within the scope of the position and for which competency has been determined.

  • Demonstrates current level of knowledge of various payor regulations by functioning within those guidelines.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications You Need to Bring

    Required:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of one of the following: completed coursework from an accredited advanced certified nursing assistant program, 136-hour certified EMT Program, a hospital-based patient care tech training program, or an accredited Medical Assistant Program

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Professional skills with ability to remain composed in all situations.

  • Basic computer skills and willingness/ability to learn and use different applications.

  • Licenses & Certifications: current Basic Life Support for HealthCare Providers; current Mandatory Reporter approved for the State of Iowa. * Must be obtained with Introductory Period if not current.

    Preferred:

  • Bilingual, verbal & written language proficiency in English and Spanish and/or another language.

  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records

  • Previous experience in a medical clinic setting

  • Community Health Center experience.

    Your experience and skills determine your base pay. The hiring range for this position is typically $15.50 - 19.40, though highly experienced candidates may earn up to $23.25 per hour. PHC also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
