Summary ​

The Iowa State University Library is seeking applications for a collaborative and service-oriented Open Publishing Editor to help expand the Iowa State University Digital Press. The Digital Press is a nationally recognized open access library publishing program committed to Iowa State’s land-grant mission and diversifying the ideas, cultures, and experiences represented in the scholarly record. Reporting to the Scholarly Publishing Services Librarian, the Open Publishing Editor supports the publication of scholarly publications and open educational resources using multiple publishing platforms, including Janeway and Pressbooks . This may include managing open access publishing workflows, typesetting and layout of publications, reviewing content for accessibility compliance, supervising student employees, and providing support and training for publication authors and editors. Collaborators include the Open Access and Scholarly Communication Librarian, Metadata Services, Digital Scholarship and Initiatives, and the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. ​

Major Duties:

  • Assist the Scholarly Publishing Services Librarian with the operations of the Iowa State University Digital Press

  • Manage publishing workflows in multiple software platforms, including Janeway and Pressbooks

  • Produce book and textbooks using Pressbooks

  • Review publications for accessibility and adherence to style guides and standards

  • Communicate with and train authors, editors, peer reviewers, vendors, and others engaged in the publishing process

  • Oversee student employees
