Required Minimum Qualifications:• Six years of experience in the trade, which may include an apprenticeship.

Special Required QualificationsGrade 1 operator Water Distribution License, within first 6 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:Experience installing or operating steam systems.

Experience operating domestic water systems.

Experience installing large piping in trenches.

Experience operating excavation equipment.

Experience reading blueprints or drawings for utilities.

Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations (confined spaces, asbestos, excavation, PPE, traffic control).

Job Description:

Are you ready for consistent working hours that support work-life balance with holidays off? The Utilities Mechanical Distribution department is seeking a skilled Pipefitter to join our team. Under general supervision, this position applies journey-level expertise to install and repair piping, fixtures, appliances, and related systems for steam, water, and drainage. The Pipefitter will also perform various duties incidental to these systems, ensuring the proper function and maintenance of crucial mechanical infrastructures.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

• install and repairs radiators, convectors, autoclaves, traps, valves, pumps, meter, and related piping and equipment.

• Installs heating and cooling coils, traps, and refrigeration piping.

• Installs and maintains water and steam distribution piping and control equipment; fire hydrants and related distribution system equipment; installs and maintains sanitary and storm sewer systems, installs and maintains natural/propane gas systems, installs and maintains chilled water systems.

• Draws layouts and reads and interprets blueprints and drawings.

• Performs general sheet metal work as required.

• Welds using arc, gas, heliarc, and spot-welding techniques.

• Assists in directing the work of apprentices.

• Participates in an afterhours emergency on call rotation

• Point of contact for mechanical utilities services in support of capital projects.

• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the pipefitting trade.

• Knowledge of tools and equipment of the trade and skill in their safe use.

• Knowledge of welding techniques and equipment.

• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

• Knowledge of applicable building code requirements.

• Ability to follow instructions, specifications, and blueprints.

• Ability to plan and perform work involving the installation, modification, and repair of new and existing piping systems and equipment.

• Ability to work in areas designated as confined spaces in close proximity to energized utilities following OSHA confined space regulations.

• Ability to work in extreme temperatures and conditions.
