Job Title: Sheet Metal Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Technician to join our commercial small projects team. You will be responsible for servicing all sheet metal products and equipment up to approximately 50 tons, ensuring customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with sheet metal work and installing ductwork, working under the guidance of an experienced HVAC Field Technician as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Service all sheet metal products and equipment up to approximately 50 tons on assigned projects.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction by diagnosing and repairing units using a variety of hand tools and following blueprints or engineering specifications.

  • Identify, analyze, diagnose, and repair systems and products at customers’ locations.

  • Perform preventative maintenance, site surveys, replacements, and modifications as needed or requested by customers.

  • Prepare for on-site installations and repairs by examining building layouts, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials, and coordinating on-site work.

  • Maintain vehicles by keeping records of service manuals, scheduling, and completing repairs and maintenance service.

  • Inspect equipment for signs of wear and perform necessary maintenance.

  • Serve as a direct customer contact, providing re-training and follow-up training at customer sites.

  • Provide sales leads to Supervisor or Service Manager.

  • Determine parts to order for repairs and their timeliness of need.

  • Document work by completing paperwork on each job, including daily time, progress, and duration. Maintain files and submit all paperwork and reports in a timely manner.

  • Record parts, material, labor, subs, and other cost data per assignment and return unused resources.

  • Stay current on all products concerning installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair.

  • Read and interpret product specifications using experience with building specifications, drawings, and designs.

  • Study industry literature, manuals, and training materials to continue developing a better understanding of the HVAC industry.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of sheet metal installation construction experience (Residential, Industrial, or Commercial).

  • Proficiency in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass a DMV test.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with hood units, sheet metal, ductwork, HVAC systems, HVAC electrical, HVAC installation, plumbing, duct installation, pipe fitting, sheet metal installation, air conditioning, and tinner.

Work Environment

Hours: 7:00am - 3:30pm (Occasional weekends and overtime during plant shutdowns and projects). Monday AM safety meetings at the Ames office. Dress Code: Jeans and a t-shirt (nothing with holes), and steel toe boots.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of AMES, Iowa.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $30.00
