Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans.

  • Establishes rapport and remains focused on student needs to maximize learning.

  • Maintains a safe and orderly environment.

  • Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned.

  • Maintains a professional appearance as example to students.

  • Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed or listed in assigned position.

  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  • Maintains reasonable rules of conduct which encourages self-discipline and responsibility.

  • Creates a sense of belonging and welcoming environment for all students and staff.

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.

  • Onsite work required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid Iowa Substitute License, Substitute Authorization, or Iowa Teaching License.

  • Must be adaptable, collaborative, and an effective problem-solver.

  • Must complete the following trainings prior to starting as a substitute teacher: Mandatory Reporter, Bloodborne Pathogens, Seclusion and Restraint: Chapter 103. (Ames CSD will provide training instructions upon successful completion of background check.)
