This position plays a critical role in food safety by testing incoming ingredients, WIP, and finished goods for BandG Foods. Testing includes chemical, physical, and microbiological analyses. This is an evening position working 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm.
Responsibilities:
- Perform chemical, physical, and microbiological analyses on ingredients, WIP, and finished goods as directed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Perform microbiological analyses on environmental and equipment swabs.
- Communicate results promptly.
- Provide weekend support for Microbiology lab testing as required.
- Provide technical analyses and support to other departments and manufacturing locations as necessary including Gluten and other allergen testing.
- Calculate and evaluate test results for accuracy, initiate retests (as needed), and record test results daily.
- Prepare samples for analysis at third-party laboratories as required.
- Operates, calibrates, and maintains equipment used for analyses.
- Document all quality control activities, calibrations, and maintenance performed.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory chemical inventories, hazardous waste, and supplies.
- Update the chemical register on an annual basis.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Review current methods and evaluate new methods, especially those which can improve efficiency and reliability.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions for laboratory processes.
- Maintain accuracy and precision standards by successfully participating in proficiency testing programs.
- Maintain inter- and intra-departmental workflow by fostering a spirit of teamwork.
- Create, update, and close quality non-conformances as appropriate.
- Perform verification procedures related to the role.
Experience, Skills, Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or related field preferred.
- 2 years in chemical and food analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with JD Edwards, PKMS/Atomic a plus, Smartsheet.
- Good analytical and mathematical skills.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Flexibility.
- Team player.
- Provides weekend support in the microbiology lab as needed.
Specialized Training/Certification.
DOT Hazard Waste Training
- Obtain acceptable results in proficiency programs for physical, chemical, and microbiological analysis.
- Obtain HACCP training and internal audit training.
- SQF Practitioner or obtain within 6-9 months.
