THE SCHEBLER COMPANY Purchasing Manager in BETTENDORF, Iowa

With limited supervision, is responsible for all purchasing related duties within the company. Works with team members, management and vendors/suppliers to ensure best pricing, best delivery dates and best quality for material(s) needed to complete jobs.

Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to the Vice President of Operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide strategic direction for purchasing department including developing metrics for gauging proper inventory levels.
  2. Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history.
  3. Negotiate, renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.
  4. Manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to help offset losses.
  5. Assist in developing a more effective invoicing and collecting process.
  6. Requests quotes from vendors/suppliers for material.
  7. Places purchase orders as needed.
  8. Tracks orders already placed.
  9. Verifies costs when invoices are received, and resolves discrepancies if necessary.
  10. Sets up blanket purchase orders.
  11. Sets up VMI systems.
  12. Supervise and provide feedback to Purchasing Assistant and Building Custodian.
  13. Manage company cell phone contract and distribution of cell phones to employees.
  14. Performs ISO audits twice a year.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:


Education: Associates degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience: 3-5 years of purchasing experience required


Necessary Skills:

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to work with a wide variety of personalities and work experiences.
  • Computer skills on a variety of office software packages.

Other Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 25 pounds. The employee is occasionally exposed to a moderate noise level.
