Manatt's Inc Weld Shop Lead in Brooklyn, Iowa

Our Brooklyn, IA weld shop is looking for a Weld Shop Lead.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the weld shop team ensuring excellence in performance, safety, and compliance.

  • Execute supervisory responsibilities in line with the organization’s policies and relevant laws including interviewing, hiring, training, orchestrating work assignments; evaluating performance; administering rewards and disciplinary actions; and managing complaints and problem resolution.

  • Fabricate, weld, and inspect products in a safe and efficient manner to meet customer requirements.

  • Determine the cost effectiveness of repairs to equipment, the prioritization of repairs, and the available resources used to perform the repairs; monitor the budget.

  • Review parts inventory and request storeroom to stock specialized and commonly used parts, and ensure items meet manufacturer specifications and recommendations.

  • Plan preventative maintenance programs while identifying best methods for machinery and equipment to foster continuous improvement through ongoing safety and educational trainings.

  • Develop, plan, and coordinate the weekly weld shop workload based on available work hours, required work hours for repairs, parts availability, prioritize work keeping in mind forecasted weather conditions, seasonal equipment, upcoming projects, incidents, and emergencies.

  • Conduct annual physical inventory.

  • Order and/or recommend procurement of tool supplies for use. Accountable for all departmental purchases.

  • Must be able to trouble shoot fabrication, welding and grinding issues to keep projects moving forward with little or no assistance.

  • Responsible for the quality of work and productivity of weld shop. Daily reviews on time deliveries, productivity, (standard hours), schedules, order input, etc.

  • Review and approve reports, work orders, leave requests, time sheets, supply orders, etc.

  • Work with the priority of safety over production for self, co-workers, and the public at all times.

  • Maintain current knowledge of, abide by, communicate, and enforce all safety laws, regulations, policies, and procedures and wear all required personal protective equipment.

  • Lead and attend safety training and perform tailgate safety talks and safety engagements.

  • Keep up with industry standards and changes for job-related equipment, tools, materials, processes, procedures, and technology, and train others as needed.

  • Ensure daily housekeeping is maintained within assigned department and surrounding areas. Promote the use of sound and effective safety practices in the performance of all functions.

  • Participate in the training and development of the team members, ensuring they are equipped with necessary skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to the Division’s objectives.

  • Manage, develop, and make decisions on performance evaluations, dispute resolution, morale, motivation/attitude, recruitment and retention, training, overtime, leave, and safety.

  • Monitor welders work for quality control and efficiency.

  • Coach, mentor, train, and guide others on safety, manufacturing techniques and methods.

  • Exhibit key competencies such as business acumen, teamwork, effective communication, customer service, decision-making prowess, and commitment to skill enhancement.
