Job Description

Come join our team! We are currently recruiting a Business Engagement Consultant (Business Marketing Specialist) to work in our IowaWORKS office located in Burlington, Iowa.

As a member of the Business Engagement Division, you will work primarily in employer-facing functions through meetings, both in-person and virtual, special events, and correspondence. In this critical role for our team, you will serve as the primary point of contact for workforce questions and manage the employer partnerships in the targeted area.

Primary Responsibilities:

Advise employers on recruitment and local job market conditions, local wage information, recruitment and retention strategies and best practices.

  • Create job order postings, conduct pre-employment applicant assessments, and provide assistance to those participating in the Iowa National Career Readiness Certificate program.

  • Support the job seekers by helping them prepare for interviews, including applications, sharing interviewing tips, and answering any questions or concerns about the process.

  • Educate employers on Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) programs and resources including Home Base Iowa, WIOA, and on-the-job training, incumbent worker training, youth work experience programs, Future Ready Iowa, Work Opportunity Tax Credits, Federal Bonding, national labor exchange Rosetta Stone, and other training programs and funding. Develop employer profiles within IowaWORKS.

  • Build and maintain external partnerships with Local Veterans Employment Representative’s (LVERs), statewide, regional and community organizations such as chambers, regional economic development groups, Business & Industry groups, ECI, SHRM, educational partners, colleges, and nonprofits to represent and promote Iowa Workforce Development/IowaWORKS employer workforce programs and resources.

Marketing Opportunities:

Create a network with employers and community organizations by delivering presentations to the Rotary Club, Kiwanis, Economic Development, Chamber of Commerce, Vocational Rehabilitation and State Library. Attend Local Workforce Development Area (LWDA) conferences and meetings.

  • Represent Iowa Workforce Development/Iowa WORKS at employer/hiring events.

  • Coordinate with Deputy Division Administrator and IWD Communications to promote Iowa Workforce Development/Iowa WORKS business engagement programs and resources through local media sources and social media.

  • Inform the team of new employer job orders. Demonstrate understanding of job order processes of business services team, below:

  • Post and search employer created job listings within 24 hours.

  • Consult and/or edit job listings for employers, setting up qualifying criteria and conducting searches for qualified candidates.

  • Follow-up on staff-managed job orders to ensure accuracy and Veteran preferences.

Essential Functions:

Knowledge of the functions, procedures, and regulatory requirements for program operations under Iowa Workforce Development, with greatest emphasis on Labor Exchange, Public Relations, Labor Market Information and Business Services.

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written via reports, correspondence, email, and social media.

  • Ability to read, interpret and explain state and federal regulations.

  • Ability to deal effectively with persons representing various backgrounds, interests, skill levels and points of view.

  • Ability to travel within region, and statewide.

  • Self-directed, manage time and deadlines, independent or in a team setting.

  • Track record of regular attendance, produce quality work and deliver results.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations to small and large groups and conduct training one-on-one and in large groups.

  • Ability to operate a PC and use MS Outlook, Word, Publisher, Excel, & PowerPoint, and other programs that may be used.

Complete other duties as assigned.

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. Hybrid telework and alternate work schedule opportunities for eligible classifications after 6-months of employment has been completed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, graphic design, communications, human resources, business, or economics and two years of full-time work experience in marketing, journalism, public relations, graphic design, communications, human resources, business, or economics.

  • A total of six years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where 30 semester hours of accredited college or university course work in marketing, journalism, public relations, graphic design, communications, human resources, business, or economics equals one year of full-time experience.
