EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

CODE INSPECTOR II (BUILDING INSPECTOR)

To save lives and property by providing quality and effective inspection and code enforcement services to the community. To provide a high level of inspection and enforcement services that follow Development Department and City, codes, policies, and objectives, while providing the citizens and contractors of the community high quality service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs inspection responsibilities in the following areas: Building Codes and Standards, Electrical Codes and Standards, Plumbing Codes and Standards, Mechanical Codes and Standards, and Dangerous Building Codes and Standards. General field inspections to determine code compliance with the Citys adopted codes and ordinances. Enforce code and permit compliance as required. Receive and investigate code and permit complaints and prepare written reports as needed. Interpret and explain building ordinances, codes, and regulations to builders, contractors, homeowners, etc. and as it pertains to inspection duties. Inspect dangerous or substandard structures and prepare report for purposes of condemnation and compliance actions. Review plans and specifications for all new constructions and alterations for compliance with adopted codes. Prepare written reports of findings and initiates letters to occupants and owners ordering correction. Review the Citys adopted Codes and ordinances and make recommendations for adoption. Understand and follow oral and written instructions and orders. Wear all required personal protection equipment and visually assess involvement in situations to assure personal safety. Participate in classes and on-going training sessions relative to the Code Inspection Division; obtain and maintain level of proficiency specified and required for position. Read and study inspection training material and literature to stay abreast of new and/or updated rules and regulations. Perform work within the scope of the currently adopted codes and standards. Work with the Construction Board of Appeals. Provide support / assistance to Code Inspector I as needed or required. Assist and perform rental and nuisance inspections and enforcement as needed or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience: Five years experience in active code enforcement and/or construction experience required: code enforcement or construction related degrees may substitute for some experience. Minimum Training: High school diploma/GED required plus formal training in administration of building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and related codes required. Training in utilization of testing and monitoring equipment desired. License or Certificate: Valid Drivers License required. Building Inspectors Certification - International Code Council (ICC) required, or the ability to obtain certification within 18 months of employment. Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical Certifications - International Code Council (ICC); within 24 months of employment. Must live within fifteen air miles of the Burlington city limits. Must be able to pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen and physical.

HOURLY WAGE

Starting: $56,885 - $65,418 DOQ, with full benefit package.
