Job Summary - RN

Provides professional nursing care in an outpatient clinic setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assesses and documents data related to patient's and significant other's perception of illness. Prioritizes needs identified by assessment, incorporating specialized knowledge base, and makes changes based on patient/family needs.

• Utilizes other members of the healthcare team in assessing the patient and analyzes patient date. Assesses learning needs of the patient and significant others. Gives accurate and complete information to patient and family.

• Evaluates understanding of treatment plan and/or instructions.

• Assists with a variety of procedures, exams and/or operation of diagnostic equipment as assigned.

• Maintains appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, procedures and medications administered.

• Responsible for instrument and equipment maintenance, identifying problems, and coordinating appropriate repairs.

• Coordinates ongoing patient flow through the clinic process, ensuring efficient and effective continuity, i.e. greeting patients, updating demographic and insurance information, phone calls, superbills, collecting payments.

• If assigned, performs laboratory testing (including phlebotomy and a variety of routine and/or automated tests), quality assurance procedures, and maintains records of tests performed and results received.

• If assigned: a) prepares and processes patient bills; b) processes insurance claims with correct information including charges, provider and patient information, correct ICD-9/CPT codes; c) reviews accounts receivable status and takes appropriate steps to reconcile denied and delinquent accounts; d) assists patients with questions regarding bills and accounts; e) reviews remittance reports and performs follow up on claims as required.

• If assigned and with appropriate education and certification, performs limited radiography services, including taking and processing radiology films, maintaining appropriate recordkeeping, performing and documenting quality assurance/control procedures, and observing safety requirements.

• Assists with maintaining an inventory of supplies.

• Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities to improve performance at the clinic location.

• Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.

• Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

• Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.

• Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.

• Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.

• Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or diploma from a school of nursing.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, patients, families and the general public.

Position Requirements, Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

• Graduate of an accredited school for professional nurses.

• Currently licensed as a practical nurse in the State of Iowa.

• If assigned, current certification in the State of Iowa to perform limited radiology examinations.

• CPR certification.

• Must possess a current, valid driver’s license.

• Good driving record required.

Job Summary - LPN

Assists Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers in delivering patient care in an outpatient clinic setting, consistent with licensure as a Practical Nurse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Prepare patient for examination by recording vitals, medical history, and chief complaint.

• Administer injections, medications, vaccines, and IVs as directed by providers and within the scope of licensure.

• Perform laboratory tests (including point-of-care phlebotomy, specimen collection, and diagnostic tests) as directed by providers and within the scope of licensure.

• Communicate test results, follow-up instructions, and address patient questions and concerns in a timely manner according to clinic policy.

• Respond to emergency medical situations in an urgent manner and perform on the spot emergency assistance which may include first aid and/or CPR.

Clinical Support

• Assist providers with examinations and procedures.

• Prepare examination and procedure rooms with necessary sanitation procedures and supplies.

• Use clinical judgment to assess patients’ health status in person or via phone, and recommend clinic and/or ER visit as appropriate.

• Collaborate with team members and other providers to ensure all patient-care and administrative duties are completed in a timely manner.

• Travel to other clinics to provide support as directed by clinic leadership.

Administrative

• Answer patient phone calls and facilitate communication between patient and provider.

• Complete messages and tasks as assigned in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.

• Schedule follow-up appointments and procedures and submit referrals as directed by providers.

• Complete prior authorizations for procedures and medications as required.

• Assist with maintaining an inventory of supplies.

General Duties

• Practices and behaves in a professional, safe and ethical manner at all times.

• Serves as a patient advocate.

• Maintains friendly and courteous interpersonal communication skills and a positive service attitude.

• Participates in performance improvement and educational activities. Completes all CEU’s as required by respective licensure. If licensed, maintains an active and current license.

• Works willingly and accepts assignments as given.

• Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.

• Participates in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.

• Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
