Cedar Falls Utilities is currently recruiting for a full-time Electric Production Engineer I/II to join our Electric Production department. This position is responsible for developing and evaluating projects, monitoring industry trends, and best practices in electric production.

The Electric Production Engineer I/II works under general supervision of the Power Plant Manager.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Full-time, Exempt Salary position.

  • Starting wage is based upon individual qualifications. $84,340 - $137,700.

  • Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm with an hour lunch.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for Streeter Station and remote gas turbine units to ensure safe, efficient and environmentally responsible operation.

  • Develop and write specifications, request-for-proposals and bid documents for electric production projects.

  • Evaluate proposals and bids and provide analyses and recommendations to Electric Production Manager.

  • Review plans, drawings and specifications submitted by engineering consultants.

  • Conduct efficiency tests of the electric generating plant and on associated equipment.

  • Perform analyses, prepare reports and make recommendations to improve plant costs, equipment efficiency, and safety of plant operations.

  • Inspect and perform tests on power plant equipment to assess condition, identify problems and potential for malfunction, and to design and implement plant and equipment improvements.

  • Oversee and coordinate work performed by contractors.

  • Monitor industry trends and acquire knowledge of new methods and equipment which pertain to electric plant production, operations and maintenance.

  • Provide assistance and support to the plant environmental coordinator, maintenance supervisor and operations supervisor.

  • Compiles plant information and data and prepares forms and reports as necessary to meet state and federal reporting requirements.

  • Assist with load and generation forecasts and perform related analyses, along with entering data into the MISO Power GADS and MECT tools.

  • Tune combustion controls and troubleshoot operational problems utilizing plant DCS. Maintain plant historian.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.

    Experience:

  • At least four (4) years' experience related to mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.

    Certifications/License:

  • Licensed professional engineer (PE) in the State of Iowa preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of:Knowledge of applicable codes and standards that govern work at power generation facilities, such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code, National Board Codes, OSHA, NFPA, NEC, AWS, Performance Test Code, and EPA.

  • Skills:Critical thinking, active listening, complex problem-solving, monitoring, systems analysis, writing, active learning, speaking, judgement and decision making.

  • Ability to: Ability to identify problems and anticipate problems. Ability to utilize deductive reasoning by applying general rules to specific problems to produce solutions; maintain accurate records; work independently, communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

    Physical Tasks and Environmental Conditions:

  • The work is primarily performed in an office/indoor work environment. Occasionally carries objects up to 40 lbs and rarely lifts over 40 lbs. There is frequent sitting, occasional standing, walking and climbing. Possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures, moving within close proximity to moving machinery/equipment and electrical hazards.
