You will be part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively with an experienced management team both locally and at the state level. This leadership role will report directly to the District Director. The sixth district encompasses 6 counties in Iowa (Jones, Johnson, Linn, Iowa, Tama and Benton).
The Accountant 3 (Supervisor) is responsible for the districts operating budget and financial statements, annual GAAP reporting and other year end processes, maintaining recordkeeping of the districts fixed assets and supervision of the accounting and other personnel within the district. Duties include the following:
• Monitors the operating budget with deep understanding of the needs and priorities of the district.
• Prepares monthly financial statements, cost reports and other financial documents for the districts management team and Department of Corrections central office.
• Forecasts revenues and expenses with precision necessary to facilitate proactive operational decision making.
• Creates and enters journal entries, adjusting entries and ensures that monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements are accurate.
• Provides budget information and financial statements to the districts management team.
• Responsible for the annual audit.
• Responsible for the district inventory control and maintenance of fixed assets.
• Oversight of various grants and leased buildings and/or equipment.
• Supervision of accounting and other personnel of the district.
• Must have strong computer skills.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with satisfactory completion of a minimum of twelve semester or equivalent hours in accounting course work and the equivalent of thirty months of responsible full-time work experience in accounting, accounts examination or verification, budgeting or closely related fiscal experience with a governmental agency, public accounting firm, or private industry;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the equivalent of one year of full-time work experience for each year of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty hours of graduate level course work in accounting, business administration or finance for one year of the required experience to a maximum substitution of sixty hours;
OR
Certified Public Accountants will qualify with eighteen months of the required experience;
OR
employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of nine months of full-time experience as an Accountant 2 shall be considered as qualified.
