GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Cafe at Kirkwood (Iowa Hall, Main Campus at Kirkwood Community College) is a part of the same culinary team that operates The Class Act Restaurant and organizes banquets/catering for The Hotel at Kirkwood. The Café provides fresh, high quality ingredients, a tasty gourmet twist to recipes, and menus with variety and flavor, to the students, employees and guests on Kirkwood's main campus. The dishwashers wash and dry dishes (either by hand or with machines), help with overall cleanliness standards for Café, transport items between locations and pitch in to help with prep or catering events.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and/or pans using dishwashers or by hand.

  • Place clean dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment in storage areas.

  • Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition.

  • Stock supplies such as utensils and plates in serving stations, cupboards, and racks.

  • Sweep and scrub floors as well as clean garbage cans with soap & water.

  • Sort and remove trash, placing it in designated pickup areas.

  • Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas.

  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.

  • Perform other related work duties as assigned such as cashier, prep and barista work.

  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, including the health code.

  • Knowledge of basic sanitary guidelines.

  • Knowledge of basic dish machine operations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and managers.

The work environment is a kitchen environment, there is loud noise, smells and exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
