Description Robert Half has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Controller to join a well-respected services company. In this leadership role, you will manage an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa region.

Major responsibilities

  • Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet client expectations

  • Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed

  • Flexible in completing tasks beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management

  • Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time

  • Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports

  • Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation Requirements - BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Board reporting experience preferred

  • Balance Sheet Reconciliation experience highly desired

  • Deep understanding of account analysis

  • Adeptness in Monthly Reconciliation

  • Month end closings experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliation

  • Knowledge of Financial Statement

  • Candidate must possess first-rate analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Vow to meet business deadlines

  • Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus

  • CPA/MBA preferred

  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

  • Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment
