JOB GOAL:

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Under minimal supervision, the instructor is responsible for fostering student learning in the Plumbing program for Industrial Technologies. Responsibilities include lecture, online learning, virtual reality instruction, and laboratory. Teaching assignments may include both day and evening courses. The position requires the ability to work independently, have strong organizational and communication skills, and high computer literacy. Must be accessible to students, serve on department and college committees, and maintain relationships with related business and industry. Will be responsible for meeting the goals and objectives of an individual Professional Preparation Plan as outlined in the College’s Quality Faculty Plan. Will activity participate in assessing and advancing Student Learning Outcomes.

The typical work schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday from 7 am to 4 pm.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Constant 67-100%

  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.

  • Teach using a variety of delivery formats, methods, schedule, and location.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate course syllabi for each course taught.

  • Effectively organize and prepare learning activities for assigned course in accordance with established syllabi.

  • Evaluate and record student performance/achievement on a regular basis and provide regular student feedback.

  • Provide guidance and advising for current and prospective students.

  • Request and maintain instructional equipment and supplies for classroom and laboratory use.

  • Attend required training.

Frequent (34-66%)

  • Participate in the development and/or execution of departmental tasks and projects in the area of instruction or instructional support.

  • Make recommendations concerning curriculum revision and development.

  • Maintain professional and technical skills.

  • Assist in the evaluation and assessment of Kirkwood’s Plumbing program.

  • Engage in professional development.

  • Develop and advance Student Learning Outcome assessments.

Occasional (10-33%)

  • Participate in outreach activities to explain and promote the Plumbing program.

  • Attend department and sector meetings.

  • Serve on department and college committees.

  • Assist in the promotion of department programs.

  • Participate in and facilitate Advisory Committee meetings.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves occasional (10-33%) sitting and constant (67-100%) standing in a classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, walking, lifting, dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and viewing various types of visual work, and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture. Frequent (34-66%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and visualizing three-dimensions from a two-dimensional medium. Exerting up to 50-100 pounds occasionally. May travel to other on-campus facilities, off-campus facilities and agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a Department of Labor approved plumbing apprenticeship program

  • Current State of Iowa Plumbing License

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current State of Iowa Master Plumbing License

  • Experience teaching in higher education.
