Senior Systems Engineering Manager - Air Combat Test & Training (Onsite)

The Air Combat Test & Training (ACTT) engineering department specializes in developing flexible and secure military test range systems. We enable our customers to integrate new aircraft and weapons technology into complex training scenarios that can include aircraft of different nations and generations.

The Collins Aerospace Air Combat Test and Training (ACTT) engineering department is responsible for the design, analysis, test and certification of Air Combat Test and Training systems. We solve the challenges of next-generation pilot proficiency training so they can “Train as they Fight.” We field Test and Training range systems with state-of-the-art technology in cryptography, datalinks, navigation, communication, networking and command and control. We specialize in highly accurate, highly secure solutions for U.S. Navy and Air Force customers. We are a system of systems development team that designs, integrates, and supports some of the largest, most complex solutions offered by Collins Aerospace.

The ACTT engineering team is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of Systems Engineers responsible for the shepherding development projects from verification to validation and deployment to support. What you will do:

  • You will have a technical role on at least one program in addition to performing the day-to-day leadership of a group of design engineers, with the primary responsibility of ensuring that each employee has suitable work assignments and opportunities for growth and advancement.

  • Your duties will include performance development and appraisal, salary planning, manpower planning, career coaching, and ensuring adherence to company policies.

  • You will contribute to the technical oversight of employees, monitor program execution, and provide subject matter expertise in direct support of program efforts and proposal activities.

  • You may manage project scope, schedule, and budget for software engineering activities using Earned Value Management System (EVMS) performance measurement.

  • You will assist with proposal preparation including estimating the scope of new engineering projects.

What you will learn:

  • Leadership and Management: Develop and refine leadership and project management skills, including hiring, performance assessment, and personnel management, while managing project scope, schedule, and budget in a high-stakes environment.

  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Enhance collaboration skills by working within integrated agile release train teams, coordinating with Systems, Cyber, Range Integration, and Manufacturing teams to ensure successful project execution and delivery.

  • Digital Engineering Practices: Learn and apply advanced digital engineering methodologies such as Model-Based Systems Engineering, digital twin simulation/integration/testing, and the automation of build delivery and test processes to enhance mission system designs.

  • Advanced Systems Integration: Gain experience with integrating complex Systems of Systems, enhancing skills in working with multi-level network security and cutting-edge communication technologies.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • Must have, or be capable of obtaining, a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. (Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements.)

  • Experience in the following areas of responsibility:

  • Leading a team in performing integration, systems engineering, and software development

  • Bidding, planning, and managing project budget, schedule, and scope.

  • Creating collaborative team cultures that drive predictable program performance to consistently meet business and customer commitments.

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Experience in the following areas of systems engineering: requirement development, design, and integration and test

  • Experience leading teams using Agile frameworks.

  • Experience in air combat and/or training concept of operations

  • Experience supporting business development and program management in creation of business cases and product roadmaps.

  • Experience as engineering bid lead on large, complex pursuits

  • Proficiency in hardware and software troubleshooting

  • Preferred applicants will currently hold a Secret (or above) security clearance or have held one within the past two years.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
