Collins Aerospace is searching for an experienced engineering professional who is interested in working together with others to achieve excellence in design and efficient lifecycle execution. This position is responsible for working closely with software engineering teams to provide quality-focused technical and process oversight of product developments throughout their lifecycle.

As a Design Assurance Center team member supporting Avionics Engineering, you will help ensure designs meet quality expectations, as well as customer, regulatory, and other requirements. The role requires the ability to influence the adoption of engineering best practices to identify and eliminate defects before delivery.

This position requires the applicant to have demonstrated experience in software development process and methods, including planning, requirements capture, design, implementation and integration, verification, and validation.

Success in this position requires a Passion for Quality, Process and Continuous Improvement and the ability to build rapport with the Engineering project teams in order to influence the teams do the “right thing for the right reason”.

Job Responsibilities:

LEAD DESIGN ASSURANCE ENGAGEMENT. Serve as the primary design assurance point of contact for assigned engineering projects. Develop project-specific quality plans for new product developments as required. Collaborate with other DAC Subject Matter Experts on your team to ensure appropriate technical engagement with projects. Represent the DAC at customer events.

ASSESS ENGINEERING EFFECTIVENESS. Ensure engineering efforts are performed effectively and efficiently, meeting customer, company, and applicable regulatory requirements (including ARP4754A) and quality expectations. Contribute to design reviews, test readiness reviews, and other project reviews and team meetings.

MENTOR TEAMS. Mentor engineering teams as needed throughout the development lifecycle in the areas of process, tools, design quality, and regulatory requirements to ensure robust and problem-free deliveries.

EVALUATE PROJECTS. Perform proactive, ongoing assessments to determine the health of projects using objective measurements and audits. Produce metrics reports for management review. Employ methods such as root cause analysis as appropriate. Analyze project data for trends and systemic issues. Recommend corrective actions.

FACILITATE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT. Lead the efforts of cross-functional teams to ensure that quality issues seen in legacy products are avoided in new designs. Assist with engineering project planning activities, ensuring plans account for lessons learned across the enterprise.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

  • Minimum of 5 years system/software experience is required -- hands-on experience as an engineer on a design & development project, including civil certification, from planning through verification and subsequent certification.

  • Experience creating and following a documented development process with working knowledge and demonstrated application of DO-178B/C.

  • Strong working knowledge of design process

  • The Ideal candidate will also possess the following skills or direct experience:

  • An ability to establish rapport and engagement with all levels of the organization, including leadership, internal engineering customers, shared service organizations, and external customers.

  • Strong attention to detail

  • An ability to apply insightful judgment to properly assure compliance and assess necessary quality related improvements.

  • Assessing proactively and analyzing the health of projects using objective measurements and audits

  • Ability to present project health in a manner that influences project execution to achieve quality outcomes and continuous improvement.

  • A proven track record of meeting commitments while supporting multiple simultaneous projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • JIRA proficiency is preferred

  • Working knowledge of BA or Boeing related project execution is preferred

  • Knowledge of effective Design Quality Assurance principles is preferred

  • Knowledge of FAA Regulatory Requirements and / or experience in civil certification focal roles is preferred

  • Experience in AGILE development environment is preferred

  • JAMA experience is preferred

Typically Requires:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
