Description
Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for leading safe and effective fitness classes for the Dr. John & Jean Marshall Wellness Center members. They are to design enjoyable classes that encourage participation and educate patrons on the benefits of exercise and healthy lifestyles. Group Fitness Instructors must demonstrate a positive commitment to the mission and goals of the Marshall Wellness Center. Group Exercise formats can include, but are not limited to, Cycling, Yoga , Pilates, Zumba, Les Mills Body Pump, and Hip-Hop Fitness.
Job Duties
Cultivate a campus culture that appreciates the benefits of an active lifestyle by serving as a positive and friendly role model.
Lead safe, inclusive, fun, and effective fitness classes according to class format.
Design classes based on current research in the health and fitness industry.
Develops positive relationships with class participants by teaching a variety of challenging and entertaining group fitness classes
Educates class participants on correct form and alternative moves during the fitness routine
Attentively listens to members, answer questions, and engage in conversation before and after classes
Arrives 10 minutes early, cleans and organizes studio space after each Group Fitness class
Greet, introduce and welcome all participants
Provides current music for each class that entertains and motivates while ensuring appropriate language
Maintain knowledge of and upholds facility and program policies and expectations
Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or equivalent is required .
1-3 years of experience in group fitness instruction, experience and knowledge of fitness training and education methods and techniques in the area of specialty.
Relevant experience that demonstrates a commitment to delivering first-rate customer service, and experience that demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disabled backgrounds of community college students.
Ability to pass a background check
Preferred
Professional instructor certification related to field of expertise or the commitment to obtain professional certifications within 60 days of hire
Physical Demands
90% standing and walking, reaching, twisting and turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
Lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus without color-blindness.
Ability to lead fitness classes and attract and retain class participants.
