Description
The Group Fitness Instructor is a valuable component within the Reiver Fitness program that is responsible for planning and instructing group fitness classes at the Dr. John and Jean Marshall Wellness Center.
Job Duties
• Check-in/register participants before each class
• Plan and lead class in a safe and effective manner
• Encourage participants throughout the workout
• Make modifications for participants’ varying abilities as necessary
• Maintain an updated inventory fitness equipment and supplies
• Notify the Coordinator of Fitness & Wellness of any equipment or repair needs
• Respond to emergency situations according to level of first responder training
• Keep an accurate record of hours worked and submit timesheet when due
• Maintain knowledge of and upholds facility and program policies and expectations
• Approximately 3-5 hours per week
• Hours vary but may include mornings, afternoons, and/or evenings
• Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Fitness & Wellness
Qualifications
• Must be a currently enrolled student in good standing
• Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification or willingness to become certified
• Current NCCA Group Fitness certification or willingness to become certified
• Prior knowledge related to fitness and wellness
• Exceptional communication and proven leadership skills
• Prior experience as a group fitness instructor preferred
Physical Demands
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, use hands to operate a computer keyboard, telephone and other basic office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, use a phone. Occasional lifting of 10 lbs., reading, writing, calculating, social interaction skills, reasoning/analysis, and ability to work with minimal supervision, and a high degree of problem solving and high level of inter-personal skills is preferred.
