Description
The High School Driver’s Education Classroom Instructor will provide a rigorous academic environment that actively engages students; incorporate best educational practices, creates an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and address the needs of all learners and supports social/emotional development of the students. Must have knowledge and understanding of current driving laws and be able to follow philosophy and curriculum guidelines. Currently this class is offered four times a year. Two during the school year that meet on Saturdays, and two during the summer where each class meets Monday – Friday 8:00 – 11:00 am for two weeks. Developing this class into an online format is anticipated.
Qualifications
Candidate must possess a valid or expired teaching license, have a safe driving record for the last two years, be at least 25 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and be able to pass a background check.
Additional Qualifications
Candidate will be guided through the remaining qualifications which are:
Completion of the online “behind the wheel” coursework
Receive a certificate of completion with the Iowa Department of Transportation
Completion of the 5-12 Driver and Safety Education Endorsement through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners
Physical Demands
This position demands the ability to sit in a car for long periods of time. The ability to get in and out of an automobile and properly use the instructor brake. Occasionally lift ten pounds, operate a computer and classroom equipment. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, use a phone. A high degree of interaction skills, reasoning/analysis, and the ability to effectively communicate with parents and students via multiple platforms is required. Organization and a high level of responsibility is required.
