Job Description
Supervise a caseload of high-risk offenders employing various monitoring and rehabilitative techniques to include but not limited to, home/work visits, collateral contacts, electronic monitoring, effect arrests, testify in Court, and other techniques. Qualify with and carry firearms and other weapons/ less lethal options. The position is expected to establish and maintain close working relationships with law enforcement agencies, treatment providers, and the Courts.
Meet all the requirements and/or pre-testing involved in being eligible for [ILEA] Law Enforcement Officer Certification in Iowa, including physical agility testing, mandated by the ILEA (see specifics below). Applicants must complete, or have successfully completed, all pre-testing requirements prior to being selected, to include uncorrected vision of not less than 20/100 in both eyes, corrected to 20/20, and color vision consistent with the occupational demands of law enforcement. Have normal hearing in each ear (hearing aids are acceptable if a candidate can demonstrate sufficient hearing proficiency to perform all necessary duties of a law enforcement officer) and must meet all other minimum standards for Iowa law enforcement officers. Successfully complete ILEA Certification.
Graduation from a four year accredited college or university; or Graduation from an accredited two-year or a minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university and two years of human services/criminal justice experience.
For those persons with current ILEA certification or approval to carry a firearm, completion of the basic requirements are required including but not limited to background, finger prints, psychological pre-employment testing (PAI, NEO, MMPI), POST (cognitive), physical agility and medical examination prior to participating in the physical agility testing. For those persons not certified, attendance at the ILEA Training Academy in Johnston, Iowa is required. Failure to successfully complete the ILEA Academy will result in immediate removal from the position.
Possess a valid Driver’s License and ability to be insured. Valid Iowa driver’s license is required to attend the ILEA.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field, and experience equal to three years of full-time work in a human services or criminal justice field.
A total of seven years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes thirty months of full-time work as a Probation/Parole Officer 2.
