Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safely transport students around the district to cross-campus courses.

  • Consistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspections

  • Affect a calm temperament and caring demeanor around children from a variety of cultural backgrounds and economic circumstances.

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.

  • Must be willing to support Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.

  • Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.

  • Accept and implement coaching and training.

  • Maintain a cooperative attitude and build rapport with students, peers, supervisors, parents, school personnel, and the community

  • Use effective and professional verbal and written communication skills

  • Maintain a clean, safe and presentable interior and exterior of the vehicle.

  • Maintain accurate records of student ridership.

  • Maintain current knowledge of all student requirements, such as medical protocols, IEP’s, etc. and respond appropriately to events by following written protocols

  • Ensure students are properly secured in required safety equipment and restraints.

  • Accurately complete reports and paperwork in a timely manner. Including, vehicle maintenance requests, student behavior referrals, timecards, directions, etc.

  • Abide by federal law, state law, and district policies, procedures, and expectations

  • Utilize technology when required

  • Immediately report accidents

  • Ensure vehicle is properly fueled according to department policy

  • Report any safety or maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely manner

  • Report all moving violations to Transportation Manager, including any received while on or off the clock

  • Clean van as designated by department procedures

  • Other duties, as assigned

    Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Obtain and maintain a minimum of a valid Class D3 Chauffeur’s license

  • Must possess and maintain excellent driving record meeting MVR background check.

  • Successful completion of a school bus driver course.

  • Work well with others, including all personality types

  • Effective problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of, or ability to navigate, Davenport

  • Have and use effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must pass and maintain all DOT physical requirements.

  • Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students.

  • At least two years of professional driving experience.

  • Experience working with children from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

    Physical Requirements

  • Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time

  • Entering and exiting vehicles regularly

  • Descend from back door of vehicle in emergencies onto uncertain surfaces

  • Continuous use of hands, fingers, and wrists repetitively

  • Using both hands and legs simultaneously

  • Repeated stooping, bending, and kneeling

  • Occasional pushing, pulling and maintaining balance

  • Rapid mental/muscular coordination
