Duties & Responsibilities
Safely transport students around the district to cross-campus courses.
Consistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspections
Affect a calm temperament and caring demeanor around children from a variety of cultural backgrounds and economic circumstances.
Possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
Must be willing to support Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.
Accept and implement coaching and training.
Maintain a cooperative attitude and build rapport with students, peers, supervisors, parents, school personnel, and the community
Use effective and professional verbal and written communication skills
Maintain a clean, safe and presentable interior and exterior of the vehicle.
Maintain accurate records of student ridership.
Maintain current knowledge of all student requirements, such as medical protocols, IEP’s, etc. and respond appropriately to events by following written protocols
Ensure students are properly secured in required safety equipment and restraints.
Accurately complete reports and paperwork in a timely manner. Including, vehicle maintenance requests, student behavior referrals, timecards, directions, etc.
Abide by federal law, state law, and district policies, procedures, and expectations
Utilize technology when required
Immediately report accidents
Ensure vehicle is properly fueled according to department policy
Report any safety or maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
Report all moving violations to Transportation Manager, including any received while on or off the clock
Clean van as designated by department procedures
Other duties, as assigned
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must be at least 18 years of age
Obtain and maintain a minimum of a valid Class D3 Chauffeur’s license
Must possess and maintain excellent driving record meeting MVR background check.
Successful completion of a school bus driver course.
Work well with others, including all personality types
Effective problem-solving skills
Knowledge of, or ability to navigate, Davenport
Have and use effective verbal and written communication skills.
Must pass and maintain all DOT physical requirements.
Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students.
At least two years of professional driving experience.
Experience working with children from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Physical Requirements
Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time
Entering and exiting vehicles regularly
Descend from back door of vehicle in emergencies onto uncertain surfaces
Continuous use of hands, fingers, and wrists repetitively
Using both hands and legs simultaneously
Repeated stooping, bending, and kneeling
Occasional pushing, pulling and maintaining balance
Rapid mental/muscular coordination
