Duties & Responsibilities: Essential Functions of Position, Major Responsibilities, Summary of Key Duties, Special Assignments, Relationships)

  • Attend and provide information or documentation as requested at IEP meetings for community worksite students.

  • Bring awareness and demonstrate a positive attitude toward cultural and socio-economic diversity.

  • Responsible for gathering and maintaining records of data collected for community and building worksite students for the progress monitoring of IEP goals.

  • Act as a resource for building staff and advocate for the WE Program both within the District and the Community.

  • Serve as the Contact person for the District and for the Community regarding the WE Program.

  • Flexibility based on student needs.

  • Job coaching at building and Community job sites to assure that the student is successful and promotes a positive view of the District.

  • Meets with Special Education Transition Specialist and classroom teacher and Community worksite to assure that the WE is a good fit for the student and that the progress made is ample and troubleshoot any adaptations that need to be made for the student.

  • Reports to Director of Special Education, Special Education Transition Specialist, and Building Administrator to assure that both Building and District needs are met.

  • Coordinates transportation to and from the work sites and is responsible for contacting bus lot on days when student is absent and there is no need for the transportation, along with informing Community worksite of student's absence.

  • Determine prerequisite skills for job placement to assure student's success and growth.

  • Responsible for all WE students at respective building to schedule work; transportation; monitor performance and behavior at the worksite; work with worksite to troubleshoot and resolve any issues.

  • Assist students with filling out applications; searching for positions that are a good fit; promoting interest in positions that the student may not be familiar with (Career Exploration thru Pathful); job shadowing; building skill levels in the areas of communications; appropriate behavior; daily hygiene, etc.

  • Build Community opportunities in worksite locations; make contact with new business to give our students more variety of positions and skills.

  • Needs to show initiative, organization, responsibility, and be able to take direction and guidance.

  • Recognition of the need for confidentiality with respect to students' right to privacy.

  • Will be evaluated by Principal with input from the Special Education Transition Specialist.

  • May be required to work partial days during summer months to conclude previous school year or prepare for upcoming school year.

  • Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs. such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture.

  • Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather.

  • Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

  • Must be able to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.

  • Successful Candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Minimum educational requirement of an associate’s degree.

  • Will work 187 workdays/school year.

  • Constant demonstration of cultural sensitivity and ability to work with a diverse group of people.

  • Maintains professional relationship and confidentiality with the school community

  • Has the ability to work effectively in teams and exhibits positive interpersonal skills.

  • Must have an excellent attendance record. Is dependable and responsible.

  • Applies proper grammar and sentence structure in written communication.

  • Job coaching training or willing to get the training within the first year of employment.
