Reports to the Education and Training Director and is a salaried, exempt position. Plans, organizes, and implements the Center Disability Student program. Responsible for the counseling and guidance of disabled students. Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards of: workplace relations and ethics; information management; communications; multicultural awareness; personal growth and development; career and personal planning; interpersonal skills and independent living.

* *DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**

  • Demonstrates and abides by Odle Core Values and operating principles.
  • Responsible and Case Management of all Cognitive disabilities from: folder review; collection of all needed documents; IDT Team; review of TABE testing; develops academic and career technical training plans to support students' goals and success.
  • Support all Academic and Career Technical goals.
  • Offer small group instruction and tutoring, when needed, to students with special needs.
  • Trains all staff on learning support/disabilities and ensures students are receiving appropriate accommodations in education, testing and training settings.
  • Participates in initial screening of disabled students, assesses students' needs and ability to benefit from the Job Corps Program and coordinates living quarters prior to student's arrival. Makes pre-arrival contact with new disabled students to ensure all requirements are met prior to their arrival.
  • Works closely with the Regional Office and Health and Wellness Director (RN) to ensure the appropriateness of applicants prior to input.
  • Performs vocational assessments of all students needing learning support.
  • Processes requests for accommodations for classroom and all testing in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Develops work experience sites and the placement of disabled students.
  • Identifies and conducts Center-wide annual training associated with Disability.
  • Identifies and acquires special equipment and expendable items for the Disability Program.
  • Confers with other staff members to increase the disabled student's adaptation to programs on Center.
  • Develops contacts with state and community agencies representing the disabled and acts as liaison between these agencies and the Center.
  • Works closely with the Vocational Rehabilitation Agency to ensure that applicants have been formally assessed by the agency. Ensures that eligible students are signed up with Voc Rehab and SSI within their first month in the Program.
  • Develops referrals to and receives reports from Health Services with respect to speech therapy, psychological evaluations and special health problems and provides appropriate follow-up information.
  • Provides counseling services to disabled students. Assists disabled students in handling special problems.
  • Participates in Career Development plan panels and Career System plan panels.
  • Provides transportation (as needed) for all disabled students.
  • Coordinates interpreting services when needed.
  • Provides the Health and Wellness Director (RN), monthly, a recap of the activity of all disabled students.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate recreational activities, including Special Olympics, to meet the needs of the disabled student.
  • Assesses disabled student's vocational offerings and evaluates effectiveness of program.
  • Attends all weekly team meetings.
  • Develops Accessibility Plan annually.
  • Attends staff training sessions as required.
  • Maintains both electronic and paper-based records and filing systems for all students with special needs.
  • Cultivates and maintains a climate on center that is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • Two to three years related work experience preferred.
  • State teaching certification or state licensure in Special Education preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record preferred.

Additional Requirements: Knowledge of disability resources in the community. Good organizational skills. Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification. Ability to effectively relate to trainee population. Good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Position requires an ability to operate office equipment and drive an automobile. In addition, an individual must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments.
