Job Summary:

The Drake University Educational Leadership Team invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor. This position will be responsible for teaching Current Issues in Special Education Administration. The successful candidate will teach a cohort of aspiring principals during the Spring 2025 semester.

The course objectives have already been established. The instructor is responsible for facilitating course activities and projects designed to meet the course objectives as well as grading all related coursework.

The purpose of EDL-277: Current Issues in Special Education Administration is to address a core responsibility of school leadership – leading for the benefit of all learners, including students with disabilities and other diverse needs. This course focuses on leadership, ensuring that the needs of students are the first priority in curriculum, instruction, assessment and school organization. Also emphasized will be the ethical, legal and professional dimensions of a school culture that promotes and values diversity.

Minimum Qualifications:

Specialist degree required.

Strong background in special education

Willingness to answer student questions outside of scheduled class time in a timely manner

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctor degree preferred.

Experience building and delivering online coursework, if necessary.

Experience as a school principal, elementary or secondary.

Job Duties:

  • Teach using the pre-developed syllabus and provided textbook(s).

  • Align course instruction and assessments to NELP Standards.

  • Establish a standards-based grading rubric to assessing students around the course objectives.

  • Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the course, including both in-person and Zoom sessions, if necessary.

  • Maintain timely communication with students to assist them in achieving course objectives.

  • Monitor and document individual student progress.

  • Entering course grades.

  • Communicate with program directors as needed.
