Department Summary:

The Program of Physics and Astronomy at Drake University, currently a part of the Department of Chemistry has an over-a-century old tradition of offering high-quality undergraduate education in Physics and Astronomy leading to competitive Bachelor’s of Science and Bachelor’s of Arts degrees. The graduates typically attend post-graduate education or develop strong careers in STEM and other fields. The program emphasizes factual knowledge and development of analytical and experimental skills and boasts a friendly, collaborative environment among students, faculty and staff in which everyone’s goals, talents and personalities are respected and nurtured. Experiential learning and early student research in collaboration with faculty is the standard. The program has excellent teaching and laboratory facilities and is part of the greater intellectual community of Drake University with students taking multiple majors and participating in diverse curricular and co-curricular activities.

Job Summary:

The position involves teaching courses at the undergraduate level. We are currently looking for an instructor(s) for introductory calculus based physics (first-year course) that meets M 10-11 and WF 10-Noon. The course requires five contact hours per week, three for lectures and two for discussion. The second course is Electromagnetic Theory (third-year course) that meets MWF 12:30-1:50 pm. The course requires four contact hours. The instructor(s) will also hold regular office hours to interact with students one-on-one as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualification required is a Master's degree in Physics or Engineering with a year of teaching experience at the college level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications are a Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering or related field and experience teaching undergraduate courses as the principal instructor.
