Department Summary:

Job Summary:

The assistant athletics director for sports performance will lead a comprehensive program for all 18 varsity sports to include strength and conditioning, injury prevention, rehabilitation and nutrition. This individual is directly responsible for men’s basketball in addition to other sports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required

Previous experience working with collegiate or professional athletics

Knowledge in principles of nutrition

Strong communication and organizational skills

Commitment to the standards set for by Drake University and the NCAA

Hold and maintain appropriate professional certifications through the National Strength and Conditioning Association or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association

Valid CPR/AED certification

Valid driver's license, meeting the insurability requirements to drive on behalf of the university

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

Master's degree

Job Duties:

  • 50% - Responsible for primary oversight of 2-3 sports in additional to men's basketball. - (Essential)

  • 20% - Establish and oversee the execution of a comprehensive program for 18 sports and 400 student-athletes including strength and conditioning, injury prevention, rehabilitation and nutrition - (Essential)

  • 10% - Perform administrative duties, including budget management - (Essential)

  • 5% - Supervise four (4) staff members and interns - (Essential)

  • 5% - Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sport medicine, and and sports performance staff. - (Essential)

  • 5% - Partner with the sports medicine staff in the rehabilitation, strengthening and support of injured athletes. - (Essential)

  • 5% - Other duties as assigned for the well-being of student-athletes and the Sports Performance department. This includes proper maintenance of equipment (regular inspection and repair/replacement as necessary); traveling (and working non-traditional hours that may include nights, weekends, and holidays). Hours will vary based on practice, competition and recruiting schedules. - (Essential)
