Principal Financial Group Assistant Director-Accounting in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

We’re looking for an Assistant Director- Accounting to join our Direct Lending Accounting team. In this role, you’ll be operating under the direction of senior management, contribute to functional strategy by demonstrating a sophisticated level of understanding of business needs and accounting policies. The role will be responsible for maintaining relationships with various partner vendors providing systems solutions, leverage, and audit services. At this level, incumbents will interact with the various functions across the organization, including portfolio management, underwriting, and the parent company balance sheet portfolio managers and finance staff to solve outstanding and sophisticated problems that have an impact on the business.

To be successful, this individual will need to have a strong knowledge of fixed income strategies, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, a desire to problem-solve in collaboration with team members, and an entrepreneurial spirit to facilitate the team’s growth. The role will also require someone who is self-driven and motivated, intellectually curious, and who understands data systems and techniques to enhance the efficiency of business practices.

Key functions of the role include:

  • Apply sophisticated quantitative analysis in alignment with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), statutory accounting principles (SAP), tax regulations, or other regulatory requirements to identify financial impacts on the organization. Assess accounting and tax implications of investments and fund structures. Prepare and review audit, and accounting and regulatory matters as required across various platforms.

  • Leverage technology/systems to assist with building out internal and external reporting.

  • Assist with new client structures and PAC fund formation activities across multiple functions, including the setup and launch of new funds and financial products.

  • Assist with recurring investor reporting and ad hoc investor requests.

  • Manage external fund administrators, including review of their work product to ensure accuracy.

  • Contribute to the creation of control frameworks and ensure implementation and full compliance of control policies across the department. Evaluate the implications of changes in regulations and best practices related to governance and financial controls, drive implementation of responses.

  • Lead and manage staff including hiring, training, career development, and coaching. Lead team projects.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience required

  • CPA or other applicable certifications preferred

  • This position may require successful completion of a criminal background check.

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$123000 - $167000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers an in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) work arrangement in Des Moines, IA.
