Easter Seals of Iowa Bachelor/Generalist Social Work Practicum in Des Moines, Iowa

Easterseals Iowa is offering internships for BSW students in a variety of dynamic programs, including our Child Development Center (CDC), Assistive Technology Program, and Crisis Stabilization Services. These internships provide a well-rounded experience, allowing students to work with young children, families, individuals with disabilities, and those in crisis situations. Students will engage in hands-on activities, developmental screenings, assistive technology assessments, and crisis intervention, gaining a comprehensive understanding of service delivery across these areas. This level of internship is typically 300 to 500 hours over the course of one semester, though length varies by program.

Key Responsibilities:

-Child Development Center (CDC): Provide support in an integrated childcare and pre-school setting, conducting developmental screenings and implementing interventions for young children.

-Assistive Technology Program: Gain experience in assistive technology assessment models and practices, consulting with individuals with disabilities to define their assistive technology needs.

-Crisis Stabilization Services: Assist in providing individual and group support within residential settings, working alongside crisis stabilization professionals to help children and families during critical times. Engage in crisis intervention, assessment, and care coordination tasks.

Requirements:

  • Enrollment in an accredited BSW or other educational program requiring an internship

  • Interest in child development, assistive technology, mental health, and crisis intervention

  • Ability to work in both structured and fast-paced environments

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills

    Additional Opportunities:

  • Paid summer internships through our Camp and Respite Department

  • Potential for paid practicums in the Crisis Stabilization Program, depending on qualifications and length of commitment
