Wells Fargo Counsel - Employment Counseling & Litigation Section in DES MOINES, Iowa

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Counsel to join the Employment Counseling & Litigation Section in the Employment Division of the Wells Fargo Legal Department. The individual selected will join a team of attorneys responsible for handling employment-related legal issues for the company and its subsidiaries, including managing administrative agency claims, threatened litigation, litigation, and outside counsel relationships; providing advice, counsel and risk management training to business line management and Human Resources; developing and drafting policies, plans, agreements and contracts; and working on reports and projects as may be needed. In this role, you will:

  • Participate in less complex initiatives and identify opportunity for process improvements

  • Represent the Company in highly complex litigation, negotiations, settlement discussions, and claims-related legal issues

  • Provide guidance to internal clients on legal matters

  • Review and analyze basic assignments or challenges that require research, evaluation, and selection of alternatives, and exercise independent judgment to guide medium risk deliverables

  • Manage highly complex claims and litigation

  • Participate in initiatives of varying scope and complexity

  • Support the work of more experienced counsel along with professional staff on complex matters or may consult with more experienced counsel and outside counsel on complex matters

  • Present recommendations for complex situations and exercise independent judgment while developing expertise in policies, procedures, and compliance requirements

  • Provide leadership and direction for certain complex functions worldwide

  • Advise on the impact of policy, legal, and regulatory changes

  • Provide guidance to less experienced counsel or paralegals

  • Develop the strategic direction for certain claims functions and management of related policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate risk

  • Collaborate with functional colleagues, internal partners, and stakeholders

  • Partner with business leaders and management of other corporate departments to develop and implement risk management programs

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of Law experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • Active State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United States

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and extensive experience with state and federal employment laws and regulations

  • Knowledge and experience with handling employment law matters in litigation and the administrative agency process

  • Assume responsibility quickly and have the ability to work in a complex environment requiring a high degree of collaboration

  • Ability to analyze employment law and regulatory issues and provide effective advice to clients on complex employment legal matters

  • In house legal experience

  • Experience providing counsel and guidance regarding complex employment law issues

  • Experience with FINRA matters, including providing counsel and guidance regarding complex employment law issues involving employees who are licensed through FINRA and experience handling arbitration of employment claims before FINRA

  • Experience handling employment litigation, administrative issues, and arbitration of employment claims before AAA, JAMS, or other arbitration forums

  • Experience with management-side labor law, including organizing campaigns, collective bargaining, and labor-relations lawsuits, charges, arbitration hearings and administrative proceedings

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work while handling matters of significance

  • Ability to work effectively in a complex environment with a high degree of collaboration

  • Effective in building partnerships, functioning well with project teams, and working for the success of the team

Job Expectations:

Pay Range

$96,600.00 - $188,900.00
