Position Purpose:

​Visually evaluates and assists with collection of cell samples from patients of diverse ages.

What you will do:

  • Performs both routine and special diagnostic procedures related to cancer detection requiring application of principles and theories of cytology to produce a reliable diagnostic result.

  • Prepare cytological slides on specimens including but not limited to pap smears, body fluids, BAL, brushings, washings, fine needle aspirations, cyst fluids, CSF and urine. Examine and diagnose non-gynecologic and gynecologic slides for infectious, pre-malignant, and malignant disease processes using automated and manual screening methods.

  • Troubleshoot various equipment failures and resolving technical issues.

  • Monitor and resolve all cytology cases in outstanding status to maintain efficient turn-around time.

  • Follows established quality control measures and procedures.

  • Shows commitment to providing quality service to all laboratory clients, both internal and external.

  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge and understanding of laboratory computer system as it is used in cytology.

  • Trains new employees.

  • Utilizes LEAN principles/productivity standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science-related field.

  • Successful completion of anaccredited cytotechnology program.

  • Certification as a Cytotechnologist CT (ASCP) is required.

  • A person may be hired into this position if he/she has completed the requirements for registration for the certification exam. The exam must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skillsrequired.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and regulatory standards preferred.
