Job Summary:

The Development Data Specialist supports University fundraising initiatives by identifying, planning, and executing data projects and process improvements to maximize the value of alumni and donor data for departmental and university-wide use. This person will be the point person for Raiser’s Edge, the development office software package. Successful candidates will be a self-starter and detail-oriented individual with strong organizational and communication skills. Additionally, the candidate will have a strong work ethic and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. This position reports to and receives administrative direction from the Assistant Vice President, University Advancement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 3+ years of experience in cleaning, analyzing, and manipulating data, preparing reports, and sharing results

  • Demonstrated experience using reporting and relationship management software

  • Experience using Microsoft Power Tools and advanced Excel functions

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively while managing multiple initiatives

  • Outstanding attention to detail with superior time and project management skills

  • Strong team orientation, a dedicated work ethic and a positive and professional attitude

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with technical and nontechnical staff at all organizational levels, including excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT or another CRM

  • Experience working with advanced reporting software such as Power BI, Tableau or Crystal Reports

  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases

  • Experience working in a higher education or other non-profit fundraising environment

Job Duties:

  • 40% - Guide the team through the many upcoming changes to Raiser’s Edge NXT web view. Propose innovative or best practice solutions to improve service or resolve problems by analyzing information, recommending solutions, defining the scope of project, planning and prioritizing projects, building tools, and executing improvements. Demonstrate a willingness to learn new tasks and welcome new challenges. Demonstrate initiative toward proactive problem resolution. Promote an institutional perspective and foster professional achievement of self and colleagues. - (Essential)

  • 30% - Select and prepare confidential and sensitive information in support of campaigns, appeals, direct mailings, special events, and donor relations. Independently prepare system training materials and documents database policies and procedures as needed. Produce targeted mailing lists for communications, solicitations, and invitations for alumni & development staff and for other constituents’ university wide. Support development staff and leadership by providing custom reports and training of staff on running reoccurring reports and queries. Acts as a lead liaison with Raiser’s Edge (and NXT) software vendor, Blackbaud. Understand, analyze, and interpret data prior to report submission. - (Essential)

  • 20% - Supervise and work closely with Assistant Data Specialist. Work closely with the Records Room team with troubleshooting problems with processes, feeding/balancing gifts, and lead data team meetings. - (Essential)

  • 10% - Be a liaison between University Advancement and university partners to ensure data, in support of all alumni engagement initiatives, is accurate and consistent. Train new users, troubleshoot database issues and serve as lead liaison with Raiser’s Edge (and NXT) software vendor, Blackbaud. Perform other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
