Director of Faith Life Life for Grand View University, Des Moines, Iowa

General Description

The Director of Faith Life for Grand View University is responsible for leading Christ-centered formation and discipleship opportunities for Grand View students as well as overall campus engagement for Grand View University Campus Ministry programming, which includes people of many faith traditions. Responsibilities also include general tasks that contribute to the ministerial care for Grand View University students, faculty, and staff. The Director of Faith Life serves all the students through worship and leadership of student ministries. The worship life of the community, including weekly chapel. The Director of Faith Life will work closely and collaborate with the Pastor for Luther Memorial Church. The Director of Faith Life contributes to the university, including participating in institution-wide strategic planning, decisions regarding the allocation of resources as well as seeking to acquire resources, and leading projects, events, and initiatives involving a broad range of constituencies both on and off campus.

Supervision

The Director of Faith Life works under the direct supervision of the President of Grand View University and in collaboration with the Grand View student ministry team members and the Pastor of Luther Memorial Church.

Objectives of the role

  • Worship, Preaching, & Faith Formation: Work with the Pastor of Luther Memorial Church to plan and lead worship services and campus chapel services, Bible studies, and faith formation courses for the campus community and congregation, as well as provide vocational discernment leadership for students. (Note: This is not an academic appointment).

  • Vision, Mission, & Strategy: Lead and direct the Grand View Campus Ministry Department (in collaboration with the President, President-s Council) as well as provide pastoral guidance and care for the university.

  • Spiritual Guidance: Foster the spiritual welfare of the Grand View University community, giving special attention to the needs of students. Develop and oversee a team of student leaders who participate in the work of faith formation and engagement across the university.

  • Presence & Outreach: This is a people-facing position requiring regular engagement with the campus community to foster belonging and participation on campus.

  • Development Relations: This position partners with the university Advancement Office to expand the support, reach, and impact of faith life at Grand View through fundraising and grant opportunities. This position also partners with the Enrollment Management department to enhance recruitment efforts with church and faith partners.
