Aston Carter Director Of Procurement in Des Moines, Iowa

Seeking a Director of Procurement for a Major Produce Wholesaler in the Des Moines Area!!

Job Duties

  • Manage a team of 7 Buyers.

  • Oversee holistic procurement strategy and vision

  • Provide mentorship, coaching, development opportunities and overall leadership to the procurement team

  • Establish, track, and hold team members accountable for departmental KPI’s

  • Increase total gross profit among all categories

  • Direct inventory management and fulfillment at six successful business units around the Midwest

  • Reduce inventory shrink through process change and training

  • Improve and maintain optimal inventory levels with your team to support on time deliveries

  • Grow partnerships with existing produce suppliers, and continually evaluate new and qualified produce suppliers

  • Grow specialty categories with marketing, sales support and develop vendor relationships with specialty suppliers to support growth needs

  • Support in negotiating vendor contracts and critical business needs

  • Maintain and improve the overall company supply chain including our carrier network for inbound loads and inter-company shuttle needs

  • Support the quality assurance team and help to improve QA processes and procedures

Qualifications

  • Strong desire to win and grow as an individual professionally

  • 4-5 years in produce and wholesale foods purchasing/procurement preferred

  • Management experience in the development of buyers and mentoring the team to elevate the standard

  • BS/BA degree in Supply Chain Management or related field highly preferred

  • 2-3 years in a management role with a sound track record of developing employees

  • Purchasing strategy expertise showing positive gross margins

  • Ability to interact with internal associates and external partners
