Ford Motor Company Director SRE Observability (Remote) in Des Moines, Iowa

Ford is an industry icon, and with good reason. We create some of the most iconic and highest quality vehicles in the world. That’s a fact that means as much to us as the people who enabled it. The talent, experience and dedication of our people and teams are the reasons we’re here and that’s why we value them so much. Here, your voice matters. Come as you are, bring your true self and together we'll do great things.

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

Enterprise Technology plays a critical part in shaping the future of mobility. If you’re looking for the chance to leverage advanced technology to redefine the transportation landscape, enhance the customer experience and improve people’s lives, this is the opportunity for you. Join us and challenge your IT expertise and analytical skills to help create vehicles that are as smart as you are.

As the Software Engineering Manager, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our observability initiatives. Utilizing your expertise in software leadership, data management, data streaming, and visualization, you will help us solidly land the fundamentals, while enabling us to gain the advantages of recent developments in the AI and machine learning spaces.

About the leader: As a leader you possess a breadth and depth of knowledge that inspires those around you. You understand that speaking is the least effective way to be heard, and your accomplishments prove it. You know how to lead engineering teams and can rationalize between possible and impractical. You have managed and shipped at scale, and you are a naturally curious thought-leader who is unafraid to wonder.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, and professional development

  • Drive the transition from traditional monitoring to full-stack observability, incorporating modern trends and technologies

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define observability requirements and implement effective solutions

  • Manage data-related processes, including data collection, storage, processing, and analysis

  • Utilize your experience with Kafka and data streaming technologies to design efficient data pipelines

  • Oversee the development of interactive visualizations and data presentations to provide actionable insights to stakeholders

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends in observability, data management, and software engineering, applying relevant best practices to the team's projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

  • 8 years of experience in software engineering including technical leadership

  • Strong background in data management, including experience with Kafka and data streaming technologies

  • Strong background in Observability tools and practices, including experience with Dynatrace, Splunk, ELK, Grafana and data ingestion technologies

  • Proven track record of building and managing successful engineering teams

  • Proficiency in designing and implementing visualizations for data presentation

  • Knowledge of modern observability practices and tools, with a focus on full-stack observability

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
