Actalent Engineering Technician in DES MOINES, Iowa

Job Title: Engineering TechnicianJob Description

As an Engineering Technician, you will perform material testing for aggregate, soil, asphalt, NDT (Non-destructive Testing), concrete, concrete density, and steel. Your responsibilities will include visiting multiple job sites daily throughout central Iowa. You will interact with contractors and project owners, collect samples of soil or concrete, conduct foundation testing, ensure reinforcing steel compliance with shop drawings, log and track concrete and soil testing numbers.

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in DES MOINES, Iowa.

Work Environment

Overnight stays are very rare, with a maximum of 10 nights per season. You will work 40-60 hours per week, sometimes 6 days a week, and rarely 7 days a week. Start times vary between 5am - 7am and you will work until the job is done. Currently, the minimum is about 55 hours per week. The team consists of 10 field technicians and 6 office staff (2 administrative, 3 project managers, 1 engineer). The company has a family-owned feel and is run by a father and son. The environment is small and informal, with a lot of humor. You will need to have tough skin. The team spends time together outside of work. Most clients are in the Midwest, including IL, MN, and WI.
