Job Description:

Job Title: Fast and Fresh Area Human Resources Manager

Department: Human Resources

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function

Provides prompt, efficient and friendly service for multiple retail locations. Coordinates a variety of administrative duties including facilitating, recruiting, hiring, payroll, performance reviews, orientation, benefits, employee counseling, etc. Works closely with store management to ensure maximum employee satisfaction and retention. Updates payroll system.

Reporting Relations

Accountable and Reports to: District Store Director; Talent Supervisor, Director, Human Resources, Vice President, Human Resources

Positions that Report to you: All other store positions and any assigned by District Store Director

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all employee interactions.

  • Makes an effort to learn employees’ names and to address them by name whenever possible.

  • Answers telephone and email communications promptly and provides friendly, helpful service.

  • Counsels with store management and employees regarding performance reviews, scheduling, benefits, wages, etc.

  • Handles investigation, documentation and resolution of employee issues, concerns and conflicts.

  • Manages talent acquisition process, including sourcing, drug testing, interviewing, hiring and onboarding.

  • Coordinates longevity and retention programs.

  • Coordinates the transfer of employees from one store to another.

  • Attends store management meetings.

  • Conducts stay and exit interviews.

  • Ensures all employment practices comply with federal, state and local regulations.

  • Processes payroll and manages adjustments including special pay, missed pay raises, etc.

  • Prepares employee wage and employment verifications.

  • Acts as Insurance and leave of absence coordinator.

  • Records and follows up on Workers Compensation claims and fills out accident reports both property damage and personal injuries.

  • Maintains strict adherence to company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.

  • Actively participates in ongoing educational opportunities.

  • Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.

  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

Assists customers by:

  • escorting them to the products they’re looking for.

  • securing products that are out of reach.

  • loading or unloading heavy items.

  • making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests.

  • Performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience.

  • Coordinates quarterly employee meetings

  • Coordinates store events (Holiday party, Springtime Party, etc.).

  • Assists in other areas of store as needed.

  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics

  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems; variety of variables with limited standardization, and interpret instructions.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects, goals and deadlines

  • Ability to do arithmetic and calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

  • Must possess the ability to interview, counsel or advise people; evaluate data, compose correspondence.

  • Capable of compiling and analyzing employment data to guide strategic planning

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in written and verbal communication

  • Experience with creating a culture of engagement, collaboration and teamwork

  • Good organization and time management skills

Education and Experience

High school, plus 2-3 years of other schooling (HR and Accounting) and Hy-Vee experience. Six months or less of similar or related work experience

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.

  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Driving, Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

This position is occasionally exposed to chemicals/solvents. This is a fast paced work environment. Work takes place in several locations on a daily basis

Financial Responsibility

Responsible for payroll, computer, and Purchases uniforms/dress shirts, supplies, employee/store promotion, and processes cash advances.

Has daily contact with customers and employees. Has monthly contact with the general public, community or trade/professional organizations, and federal/state governmental or regulatory agencies. Has occasional contact with suppliers/vendors.
