The Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is seeking atalented Information Specialist 2to play a key role in our communications team. What You’ll Do:
As an Information Specialist 2, you will support the DAS communications team with a variety of tasks:
Website Development
Manage and update website content to ensure timely and accurate information.
Develop processes and schedules to maintain seamless website management.
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to proactively gather content updates.
Monitor website analytics and provide regular reports.
Ensure all web interfaces comply with ADA standards, usability guidelines, and branding requirements.
Serve as the primary liaison with web development vendors.
Execute updates using content management systems like Drupal, along with tools such as Adobe Dreamweaver, HTML, HTML5, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript.
Social Media Management
Oversee agency social media accounts across platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
Manage updates according to the content schedule and explore new strategies for engagement.
Utilize social media management tools like Hootsuite to optimize reach and performance.
Communications and Media Relations
Assist in developing and executing communication plans for agency policies, programs, and announcements.
Draft press releases, newsletters, reports, and other materials for diverse audiences.
Engage with media, public organizations, and internal stakeholders to establish strong relationships.
Support media interview preparations and coordinate the distribution of media materials.
Lead or contribute to digital media production, including video editing and creative content development.
Event Planning and Coordination
Plan and coordinate events such as news conferences, community outreach, and educational initiatives.
Arrange logistical details, create informational materials, and provide event staffing.
Notify media and manage publicity efforts for events.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with website management systems such as Drupal, and proficiency in web development tools including HTML, HTML5, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and Adobe Dreamweaver.
Familiarity with accessibility standards (ADA), web usability, and digital design principles.
Proven ability to manage social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube) and utilize social media management tools such as Hootsuite.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience creating various communication materials (press releases, newsletters, reports, etc.).
Knowledge of digital media production, including video editing and content development, ideally with Adobe editing software.
Experience coordinating events, including planning logistics, developing informational materials, and managing publicity.
Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather information, align messages, and achieve communication objectives.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicantsmust meet at least one of the following minimum requirementsto qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications and experience equal to two years of full-time work planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking.
2) All of the following (a and b):
a. Two years of full-time work experience in planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking; and
b. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications equals one year of fulltime experience.
3) Number two above, where twenty-four semester hours of postgraduate coursework in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required full-time work experience.
4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 18 months of full-time work as an Information Specialist 1.
