Dart Iowa State Fair Driver in Des Moines, Iowa

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART), the largest public transit agency in Iowa, is hiring Fixed Route Bus Operators for the Iowa State Fair. Candidates must have a CDL with airbrake and passenger endorsements and prior customer service experience.

Pay: $22.50/HR + $500 ATTENDANCE BONUS! (Must attend all training and work shifts to be eligible)

Do you enjoy driving? The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) is the largest public transit agency in Iowa, and we are looking to temporarily expand our Transportation Department!

As a State Fair Operator, you would operate a 40-foot transit bus, safely transporting passengers to an Iowa Tradition - the Iowa State Fair!

Schedule: Due to the nature of this work, DART drivers require flexibility in their schedules. DART buses run every day from 4:00 am to 12:30 am. Drivers will work one week of training and then the ten days of the fair, August 8th - August 18th.

Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age or older

  • High school diploma/equivalent

  • Must currently hold a Class A/B Driver's License with passenger and airbrake endorsements

  • Pass a pre-employment background check (Motor Vehicle Record and Criminal History)

  • Complete a DOT physical through DART's physician

  • Pass a DOT Drug Screen

Job Duties

  • Promptly pick up and drop off passengers safely and according to the route schedule

  • Maintain records and trip logs that outline your driving activities

  • Complete a pre and post-trip inspection of the vehicle

  • Collects fares and operates the farebox in accordance with DART policy

  • Answers passenger questions regarding schedules, routes, and fares

  • Reports accidents or incidents to supervisors

  • Appear in a professional manner, as an ambassador of DART to the public

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate assigned equipment in a safe manner

  • Ability to follow and understand policies and procedures

  • General knowledge of the Des Moines area

  • Ability to operate a vehicle in city traffic

  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing in order to generate required reports

  • Ability to learn quickly and apply new knowledge and skills to the job

  • Customer service experience is preferred, as well as strong interpersonal skills with others
