Job Description

This is a non-merit position. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird seeks a capableLegal Secretaryto serve in the Prosecuting Attorneys Training Coordinator section.

Key Responsibilities:

Handle correspondence and phone calls. Interact with businesses, law enforcement officers, law offices, all 99 county attorney’s offices, and the public, often serving as a primary point of contact. Solicit bids for event venues. Plan, schedule and facilitate events. Prepare agendas and meeting materials, attend meetings, and maintain minutes and official records of those meetings. Maintain attorneys' calendars, ensuring they are aware of upcoming commitments and deadlines. Maintain multiple email databases and committee rosters. Process billings and receipt revenues. Process forfeitures and assist with titling vehicles. Travel to meetings and multi-day conferences which will require work outside of normal business hours. Consistently lift 40 pounds. Have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Requirements and Preferences:

Candidates must have a passion for public service and event planning, and possess high levels of organization, prioritization, customer service, written and verbal communication, math computation, and data entry skills.

The most competitive candidates will have experience working independently and prioritizing tasks with a wide view of upcoming events and deadlines. Prior experience in office administration support is a must. Prior experience in public service is a plus.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Three years of legal secretarial experience;

OR

satisfactory completion of post high school course work in an accredited legal secretarial, or closely related curriculum plus two years legal secretarial experience;

OR

one year experience in the Attorney General's Office as a Legal Secretary 2.

Additional Qualification Requirements

All positions require the ability to type accurately at prescribed standards as evidenced by passing a typing performance test.
