Description:

The Library Systems & Services Assistant handles daily activities of the library and will be trained to specialize in library functions related to database management, cataloging, and website maintenance.

Reports to the Director of Library and Media Services.

The Library Systems & Services Assistant handles daily activities of the library and will be trained to specialize in library functions related to database management, cataloging, and website maintenance.

Primary duties include:

  • Original and copy cataloging for general materials.

  • Maintain records and holdings in the Koha ILS and review existing records.

  • Maintain OCLC, SILO, and Docline local holdings records for all materials.

  • Assist with maintaining LibGuides, Koha OPAC, databases, and Library website.

Additional duties:

  • Perform circulation functions, including checking materials in and out, filling patron requests, and uploading student records to create new accounts.

  • Monitor reserves and holds on materials through the circulation system.

  • Resolve patron account issues, including account holds.

  • Generate circulation reports, overdue notices, and recalls.

  • Monitor and help users with room reservations.

  • Answer questions regarding library technology and perform basic troubleshooting, including aiding users with printing, copying, and the PaperCut program.

  • Serve as backup for processing incoming and outgoing interlibrary loans requests.

  • Provide basic search assistance for library resources.

  • Assist in assembling and arranging displays.

  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or High School diploma with 2 years of full-time work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in any discipline.

  • Previous experience working in a library environment with automated circulation systems or experience managing databases, web design, or other relevant fields.

Preferred Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

  • Previous experience cataloging in an ILS.

  • Experience with OCLC.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

Schedule Expectations

The Library operating hours are as follows.

  • Mon.–Thur. 7:30am–8:00pm

  • Fri. 7:30am–5:00pm

  • Sat. 10:00am–2:00pm.

This position will start work Monday through Friday 9am–5pm while training, and then transition to regular rotating daytime and evening hours with the occasional Saturdays as needed. The work schedule will have flexibility depending on the need for desk coverage, and the director will work with the candidate to coordinate the best schedule to fit both individual and library needs.
