Job Description

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services’ (Iowa HHS) Division of Public Health, Bureau of Health Statistics is seeking a Mail Clerk (Typist-Advanced).

This positions exists to manage all incoming mail received for the Bureau of Health Statistics.

Duties include:

  • Retrieve, date stamp, sort and distribute mail.

  • Reject insufficient applications.

  • Review applications for certified copies of vital records to determine entitlement, proper ID and fees.

  • Enter acceptable applications into State wide electronic vital record system and scan applications.

  • Audit all funds collected for mailed applications.

    Applicant must pass a background check prior to employment.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • The ability to type at least 40 words per minute,**as verified by a typing test, and experience equal to one year of full-time clerical office support work.

  • The ability to type at least 40 words per minute, as verified by a typing test, and a total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one year of post-high school course work in an accredited secretarial, business, or closely-related curriculum or 30 semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Typist.

  • Number of errors

  • Net words per minute (one point deduction for each error)

  • Your name and date must be on the document submitted to this office.

  • And it must be signed off by a witness or another person not just from the typing website's electronic signature.
