Job Title: Maintenance Manager

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Maintenance Manager to lead our maintenance team. The ideal candidate will oversee preventive maintenance (PM) projects, develop and implement maintenance strategies, manage schedules, and ensure the seamless operation of our tire manufacturing plant. This role is crucial in maintaining our high standards of production and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Preventive Maintenance (PM) and implement maintenance strategies: Create and execute effective maintenance strategies that align with the company’s operational goals and enhance overall production efficiency. Develop maintenance procedures and ensure implementation. Attend and participate in training opportunities and seminars relevant to the position.

  • Manage Maintenance Schedules: Develop, maintain, and optimize maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation of the plant.

  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a skilled maintenance team, fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and accountability.

  • Budget Management: Manage the maintenance department budget, optimizing resources while ensuring high standards of equipment reliability and plant safety.

  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and standards, promoting a safe working environment for all employees.

  • Vendor Management: Oversee relationships with external vendors and contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective service and parts procurement.

Essential Skills

  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance and reliability practices

  • Proficiency in maintenance management software (EAM or CMMS) and scheduling tools

  • Solid understanding of safety regulations and compliance

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

  • Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills

  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and safety

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 5 years minimum experience in maintenance management, preferably in a manufacturing environment

  • Proven track record of successfully leading maintenance teams and projects

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is preferred

  • Certifications in maintenance management or reliability engineering are a plus

  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, troubleshooting, industrial maintenance mechanics

  • Knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLC troubleshooting

  • Union experience and understanding of union law

Work Environment

This is a fully on-site position located in Des Moines, Iowa. The shift is 1st shift from 7am to 3pm, Monday to Friday, with flexibility required during peak seasons. The work environment is a typical tire manufacturing facility with machines from the 40s and some new automated equipment. The facility is not temperature-controlled. The dress code includes steel-toed boots, jeans, safety glasses, and hearing protection when on the production floor. The Maintenance Manager will oversee supervisors and ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
