Description:

Able to speak clearly and concisely. Knowledge and skill in computer application and use of fax machine, and photocopy machine. Ability to identify and solve problems. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Possesses basic math skills. Knowledge of CPT/ICD-9 codes. Knowledge of insurance companies’ policies regarding reimbursement and pre-certification. Ability to concentrate with attention to detail. Requires the ability to distinguish letters and symbols. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public. Maintains patient information confidentially. Understands and follows corporate compliance plan.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Essential Functions: (This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented when necessary)

  • Reviews schedule to identify patients requiring pre-authorization.

  • Calls or accesses insurance company websites to obtain prior authorization.

  • Logs each authorization within Case Management application of Practice Manager.

  • Prioritizes and provides timely turnaround on same day/next day testing requests.

  • Performs related work as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Requirements: Sedentary work is exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.

Physical Activity: Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information thorough oral communication. Fingering: Typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm as in handling.

Visual Acuity – Requires normal or corrected vision of 20/20 for close inspection of written documents, analyzing data, operation of office equipment, and extensive reading.

INTELLECTUAL AND EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Adaptability to accepting responsibility for the direction, control, or planning of an activity.

  • Adaptability to making generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria.

  • Adaptability to performing under stress when confronted with emergency or unusual situations or situations in which working speed and sustained attention are make-or-break aspects of the job.

  • Adaptability to performing repetitive work or performing continuously the same work requiring set procedures, sequence or pace.

QUALIFICATIONS: General insurance knowledge. Experience in customer relations. Computer experience required. Cardiology specific medical terminology.
