Distinguishing Features of the Class

Under general supervision, oversees equipment inventory and participates in the repair and maintenance of a variety of park mechanical and motorized equipment, specialized hydraulic or hydrostatic drive equipment; and performs related work as required.

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and

  • 5 years professional experience in the repair and maintenance of mechanical and hydrostatic drive equipment or related equipment experience.

  • Any equivalent combination of post-secondary education, experience, and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties.

Required Special Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid Iowa Class A CDL allowing the operation of vehicles with airbrakes is required within 6 months of employment.

  • Possession of Equipment and Engine Training Council (EETC) certification or related certification within 6 months of employment.

  • Candidates for positions in this class must pass a pre-employment background check, physical examination and drug screen.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)

  • Assists in planning, scheduling, directing and participates in the equipment repair section of the Parks and Recreation Division.

  • Oversees the repairs of equipment used for work performed by park and recreation department staff.

  • Performs hands-on work in the skilled areas of expertise.

  • Maintains records and prepares reports as needed.

  • Requests parts, supplies, and materials to replenish the inventory of the repair shop as needed.

  • Follows and participates in an established preventative maintenance program for tools and equipment.

  • Trains work crews on proper and safe tool and equipment operation.

  • May perform repair and maintenance work at various service centers and on site breakdowns as assigned.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
