Job Description

This is a courtesy posting for the Iowa State Fair.

35 % Repairs existing plumbing in a timely manner so that lack of service is kept to a

minimum.

  • Responds to disruption to utilities after hours, making temporary adjustments

  • until the permanent repair can be completed.

  • Final repairs are made of a permanent nature.

  • No instances of open ditches without safety barricades.

  • Temporary services installed during long term repairs.

20 % Performs annual plumbing maintenance so that the plumbing is protected in the

off season.

  • Below ground and above ground unprotected waterlines are drained in the fall and turned on in the spring.

  • Heaters and boilers are drained in the fall and filled and fired in the spring.

  • Plumbing fixtures are drained for protection in the fall.

15 % Responsible for controlling the flow of the daily work by providing the following

leadership elements:

  • Ensure the materials and supplies for the work at hand are readily available, properly stored and inventoried.

  • Keep the shop, vehicles and tools in safe working order.

  • Keep current with new procedures and materials that may benefit the shop.

  • Maintain close communication with the Plant Operations Assistant Director regarding the workload and how it fits into the time allotted for the work.

  • Plan the work assignments and how they will be met to meet each projects deadline.

  • Keep current with the maintenance budget and project budgets.

  • Ensure project information is recorded and filed.

15% Installs new plumbing consistent with the trade so that service is improved, and

routine maintenance can be performed.

  • Water lines will be installed below frost for protection or installed with drain back capabilities.

  • Sanitary and storm sewer shall be installed consistent with a journeyman’s level of experience.

  • In all cases finish work will conform to specs of sketches, plans or blueprints.

05 % Inspects existing plumbing periodically so that future interruptions may be

eliminated or kept to a minimum.

  • All potential problems should be noted and documented.

  • Recommendations for improved service noted and documented.

05 % Maintains accurate records and maps so that all systems can be located in a timely

Manner.

  • Develop and maintain maps of the buildings and grounds.

  • Maps are updated after new installations or if repairs alter the original maps.

  • Materials are ordered prior to start of projects.

  • Sketches, drawings, and blueprints are scrutinized.

  • Accurate time logs will be kept.

05% Installs new and makes repairs to existing mechanical systems in a timely manner

so that interrupted service is kept to a minimum.

  • All vents shall duct to the outside.

  • Damaged flue pipe is replaced.

  • Leaking or worn controls are replaced.

  • Burned out or rusted parts are replaced.

  • Gas lines shall have no detectable leaks.

  • Water lines shall have no visible leaks.

*Starting annual salary $ 46,342.00

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to five years of full-time work in skilled plumbing;

OR

the equivalent of three years of full-time employment as a licensed journey plumber or

plumbing contractor;

OR

the completion of a recognized trade school plumbing course and three years of

subsequent full-time employment as a journey plumber;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience including the successful

completion of an approved plumbing apprenticeship program and/or subsequent full-time, experience equal to the journey skill level, with the apprenticeship and/or journey-work experience totaling at least five years;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state Executive Branch that includes one year as a Plumber 1
